The best piece is the one you forget you are wearing. Think about what you wear most days, the necklines and the sleeves, and start from there.

Mix, but keep one thread

Gold beside silver works when one thing repeats: a shape, a texture or a width. Let one piece lead and the others follow.

• One bold piece, two fine ones.
• Keep clasps and catches on the same side.
• Store each piece in its own pouch.

Jewellery you wear every day becomes part of how people remember you.

Look after it

Put it on last and take it off first: after perfume and creams, before the pool and the gym. A soft dry cloth does the rest.
